Bitter Burn

Episode 1 of 6 · CEO & Billionaire, Romance

Isolde Laurence is ordered by her own father to kill her husband, Mark Trevena, and she chooses to protect him instead. Then one overheard conversation convinces Mark that she is going through with it anyway. Bitter Burn is a romance where a single misunderstanding turns love into something dangerous.

The Story

Isolde and Mark’s marriage began as a whirlwind romance. Once Mark hears her father’s orders, he believes she still means to murder him, and that belief ends the romance. Mark is a BDSM dom, and he puts Isolde through a world of pain and punishment. Not even her bodyguard, Tristan Thomas, can save her from it.

The series is based on a novel by Sierra Simone and serves as the heartbreaking conclusion of the Salt Kiss trilogy. It asks what Mark will do when he realizes he has hurt the person he loved, and how far he will go to win her back.

Why It Works

The drama rests on dramatic irony. Viewers know Isolde chose to protect her husband, while Mark acts on a mistaken belief. That gap keeps the tension high, because every cruel moment is shaped by something he has wrong. The “all-too-late” feeling of regret is built into the premise.

The cast includes Jake Lively, Nico Tortorella and Katelyn Rose. The setting of billionaires, family pressure and a loyal bodyguard gives the story a heightened, high-stakes tone. A love triangle and a love-hate dynamic add to the emotional pull.

Themes & Tropes

  • Misunderstanding: a lack of communication drives the conflict and the pain.
  • Love-hate and contract-style romance: intense attraction mixed with betrayal and mistrust.
  • Regret and “all-too-late” redemption: the question of whether harm can be undone.
  • Bodyguard and damsel rescue: protection and loyalty play out as a love triangle.
  • Dark, taboo material: BDSM, emotional abuse, violence and intense sexual tension.

Who Should Watch

This is for viewers who like dark, emotionally heavy romance and fans of the Salt Kiss trilogy who want to see how it ends. It deals with mature and sensitive subjects, including emotional abuse, violence and suicide, so viewers should go in aware of that. It suits those who want a tense, angsty story built on regret and redemption.
